SummerFunLand!

Well, it's time to change seasons.  May is full of little celebrations:  Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day, Astronomy Day, Armed Forces Day, Victoria Day (in Canada), and Memorial Day, which kicks off the summer.  With all that, it is time to get Thimble World ready for some fun.  Introducing, SummerFunLand with 4-wheelers, campers, picnic tables, bonfires, and boating.  I included a thimble I made of the old Crab Shack from Stevenson, WA, complete with the picnic tables and umbrellas on the back patio.

 

 

I did some digging and found more summer fun things to include.  I added some 4-Wheel Drive trucks driving around the mountain.  The mountain climbers thimble is always on the mountain.

 

 

 

And I put in motorcycles, bicycles, convertibles, benches, tree houses, and there's even a sunbather on a ledge of the mountain.  Nothing says summer more than this!

 



 

Since I am also an astronomy buff, I have a special display for Astronomy Day.  Although it isn't technically part of SummerFunLand, it is next to it.  The house and observatory are actually charms and are VERY small.  The observatory is smaller around than a penny.  The dome was part of a light-up constellation map for the ceiling which doesn't work anymore.  But, it works great for this!

 

 

The observatory even opens up to reveal a telescope!

Here comes Peter Cottontail to Thimble World!

Easter would not be complete without pretty pastels and painted eggs.  Hence my choices for Easter houses in this month's theme.  And, yes, there are bunnies!

 

 

The paper eggs under the houses gave cute "lawn" to each house along with an Easter egg tree in the village's center.  One paper egg was extra and so I used it as a backdrop to a lighthouse.

 

 

I bought small glow-in-the-dark eggs, but they never glowed.  They did make nice additions, though.

It's Irish month in Thimble World!

I made the two houses, but there's two bars (of course), a post office and a gift shop that I purchased from Birchcroft China in England.  The bar of clover makes a nice separation from the rest of the normal display.  The leprechaun and clover thimbles make nice accents to announce the Irish village.

Doing seasonal Thimble World displays has been a delight so far.  I have many other surprises planned.

ValentineWorld February 2014

February is for all things L-O-V-E, and you all should know by now how much I love my house thimbles and creating worlds for them.  So, for February, I created a Valentine House with a chimney puffing hearts and a tree of hearts in the yard.

Behind the Valentine House is Rose Cottage complete with a backyard of "flowers."

 

 



I did add some snow and other thimbles to the display (as promised last month) to make this Thimble World more seasonal.  I even added a "castle in the mist" at the top of Thimble Mountain.

Overall, I think the main layout will stay this way until probably May, but I will be adding new seasonal houses in the rock circle each month as I said I would.  So, check back next month for a new creation!

New Seasons for Thimble World in 2014

I absolutely hate to put away Thimble World after Christmas, so for 2014, I'm starting a new trend.  Beginning in January, I will put up a new Thimble World each month.  I have a theme for every month until August.  At that time, I will probably just leave one up until October.

So, let's start 2014 with Thimble WinterLand!

I also have a winter theme of thimbles in another part of the house.

 

 

This is only a start.  I will be adding snow and other thimbles to WinterLand, but for now, this will keep me going!



Christmas Thimble World 2013

 

2013 has been a downer of a year.  That being said, I almost didn't put up Christmas Thimble World.  However, I decided instead to make some new thimbles, make some changes, and make myself a little happier.  Although the set up did not change, even though I hoped it would, I did some things I've been wanting to do for the past few years.

In the center this year I went full-on Christmas.  Instead of the waterfront village and boats surrounding the main tree, I made many Christmas house thimbles from printables I found online and used those.

 

Santa's North Pole took over the waterfront! In the photos below, there is a workshop, Santa's house, a reindeer stable, and much, much more!  If you look closely, you will see Santa's sleigh and reindeer at the ready by the clock tower.

 

 

The elves have cottages all their own as well.

  





Earth got its moon AND a shuttle this year.

 The Plantation got a full setup, complete with fence and driveway.

Ok, ok. I can't forget the city.  In fact, most of the city buildings were only fronts, so I painted them this year so they would have full roofs and sides.

 

 

Well, that's it for 2013.  I hope I can come up with something more exciting for next year.  Planning starts....NOW!











Thanksgiving Thimble World 2013

 Thanksgiving.  I think of simplicity and the beginnings of our great nation during this Fall festival.  Therefore, my thimbles for Thanksgiving reflect that.  Pilgrims and Indians adorn most of the house.

 Thimbles are scattered amid the collections.  Most of them in this depiction are of animals such as chickens and woodland animals.  However, there is a totem pole of thimbles I ordered from England.

The Pilgrim's side is very simple.  The barn is actually a candle holder, but I am afraid to burn anything in it for fear it would break.  I don't think I could replace it (or any of the other pieces, for that matter).

I don't know why I like this arrangement, but I do.  The only thimble here is the acorn next to the pumpkin.

As I said, Indians and Pilgrims take the stage for Thanksgiving.  This is my Thanksgiving Thimble Community with a colonial setting in the back and Indian setups in front.  As you may recall from last year, I made the large teepee and the scarecrow tree (on top).

New for this year is my Pilgrim House setting.  I bought the house by mistake (damn ebay!) and didn't know what to do with it.  It didn't fit into my Christmas or Halloween stuff, so it sat around for a while. But, I bought the pilgrims thimble (toward the back, center) and after decorating the base to match a cow and donkey thimble I had, I found that everything fit together quite well.

Not much ado about Thanksgiving, but there is always 2014!
