It's Fair Time!

Since I have a circus/amusement park that I no longer use in Christmas ThimbleWorld, I thought I would put it to use in August. This month is filled with fairs all across the country, I decided to make a Fair of my own, although my fair is a little bit of everything.

There's the rodeo...

The main entrance complete with kids going through the turnstile and a guard in his shack.

Rides and fun galore! Even a hot air balloon ride (you can see it just over the top of the Ferris wheel).

Miniature train.

There's even a paddle wheel boat ride around a castle.

Ice cream or candy?? Gotta have "refreshment" stands.

My Fair also has a circus train.

The train (which is a set of thimbles) opens up to reveal a circus conductor in the engine compartment, a lion in the cage of the 2nd car, and seal balancing a ball on its nose in the 3rd tent car. The train IS the circus!

THE BIG TOP! (Yup, I made this.)

The "big top" top comes off to reveal a thimble inside with different clowns all around it.

The After-party...

After all the fireworks are over and the stands are all closed, it's time to change a few things. Plus, I need to start working on next year's display...

 Changed things around. Switched places with flag house and the fireworks stand. Normally, I simply take out the fireworks stand, but this year, I kept it in play by simply turning it around. It has a door on the side. I'm thinking, though, that I should maybe have something I can tack on...like some sort of fruit stand or something...

 Ok. I really don't like the red and blue things. Too tall. Too annoying. I may also drop the moon thimbles as well. Not really liking them in this scene.

So, just moving things around for more thoughts....

Fireworks and Moonwalks--July 2016

Get ready for the fireworks! July 4th is upon us.

The fireworks stand is busy.

The Alamo, a symbol of American freedom, waits for visitors.

Another great American symbol--the Betsy Ross house.

My daughter bought this for me while on her trip. I love this diorama of Washington D.C. so much, I just HAD to include it with July's display.

At the top of the display is Lady Liberty, guiding people to their freedom.

July is also my month of celebrating the Lunar Landing. This year, I put out some special thimbles commemorating the events.

And, my own handmade lunar landing/lander thimble inside its display.

Here's Earth with the now defunct shuttle in orbit. A galaxy in the distance, and Mars.

It's June and the UFOs have landed!

It's June again, and so the UFOs have returned to ThimbleWorld!

At the top is my thimble rendition of the Kenneth Arnold sighting of 1947. I finally added the other 4 craft to complete the total of 9 that he reported seeing.

The abductions continue! Some out the door...

and some from the bedroom window.

My UFOs began with the crafts from actual sightings, such as this representation of the first reports of the Phoenix lights. To the right, off in the distance, is my first handmade UFO thimble.

I have also included movie UFOs and aliens. Here's War of the Worlds (release date June 2005)

Here's my representation of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The thimble is actually of (and from) The Devil's Tower.

There's also the underwater UFO, called a USO (Underwater Submerged Object).

Bigfoot is oftentimes linked to UFO sightings (although not so much here in the Pacific Northwest), so I had to include it. This is my first Bigfoot thimble.

And then I made another thimble with 3 Sasquatch around it.

This month's train had to have a UFO as well. The tarp is blowing back to reveal the craft underneath. The green cars are for a hint of military. Note the saucer buzzing over the train and the crashed craft in the rocks (Roswell?).

Now for the back...

The planetarium under the dome covered with constellations. Atop is Earth with an alien-guided UFO thimble. A comet cuts across the earth.

Off in the distance is the spaceship voyaging to another planet. I made the planet on top actually spin (by hand).

If you follow my ThimbleWorld, then you know I sometimes have something somewhere else in the house that goes along with the theme of the month. Well, this June has just that with a UFO and a thimble of aliens under it off in another display. Just a little surprise for UFO Month in ThimbleWorld!
